Blueair 601Air Purfier
If you are after supreme clean air delivery with exceptionally quiet filtration of all the major allergens, then this is it. The 601 was rated as the top performer by the American Home Appliance Manufacturers Association for clean air delivery. It can effectively deal with dust, mould, bacteria, animal dander and pollen while being quiet, stylish, exceptional quality and value. The Blueair 601 filters 99.97% of particles down to 0.01 microns, is whisper silent and offers complete air exchange every 11 minutes, even in rooms up to 63 square metres. This award winning Swedish design is on permanent display in the National Museum of Sweden. This unit is ideal for large living areas.
The 601 was recently named the number one air cleaner on the market - that is, having the best clean air delivery rate - in an independent study conducted by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers which tested 167 air cleaners. Blueair achieved the highest rating ever given out by the Association.

The E.P.A. ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health. According to the E.P.A. indoor air can be anywhere from 2 to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air.
The average person breathes in 3,600 gallons of air, per day. Compare that with the single gallon of water a person consumes in a day, and people's increasing desire to have more purified water.
Recent studies suggest that we spend about 90% of our time indoors, and the health risks from polluted indoor air can be debilitating, even fatal. While everyone is at risk from poor quality indoor air, the most susceptible are the young, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, allergies and asthma, especially respiratory and cardiovascular disease.
The bottom line is that the EPA has recommended that everyone take steps to improve the quality of their indoor air.
The Clean Air Delivery Rate is the most important issue when it comes to comparing air purifiers, and the Blueair 601 has been rated number one. What's more, the 601, the 501 and the 402 models have been recommended by the Association for Home Appliance Manufacturers for even the largest rooms in your home - up to 550 square feet. Even in a room that size, the Blueair provides a complete air exchange every 11 and a half minutes.
Most air purifiers are noisy and hard to live with, but Blueair achieves both high performance and extreme quiet with its HEPASilent Filtration Technology. It works by electro-statically charging particles as they enter the unit. The filter itself is a special German-made material that has very low resistance to heat pressure. This means that by charging the particles and using a special filter material, the filter is able to capture more contaminants with less air pressure. Since the motor then doesn't have to work as hard to pass air through the filters, the unit operates extremely quietly. On the first two speeds, most consumers wouldn't even hear it operating.
This technology is also extremely energy efficient. Even on its highest speed, the Blueair unit uses less energy than a 70-watt light bulb. On low speed, the energy use is less than a 15-watt bulb. That's about three times less electricity than the typical air cleaner. What's more, both the steel casing of the unit and the polypropylene filters are recyclable and don't release harmful gasses or fibers.
Unlike most other air purifiers which use cheaply-made motors manufactured in China, Blueair uses a specially designed motor for the highest quality performance and nearly silent operation. The units even have a special sound insulating motor mounting system to further reduce audible sound and sound absorption in the doors.
And unlike the flimsy, plastic shells of other air purifiers that produce a lot of noise, the Blueair units boast durable, Swedish steel construction. Most units on the market are made of plastic that can off gas/release toxic volatile compounds. Even the finish on the unit is powder coated so no paint off gassing can occur. And absolutely no ozone is generated by these units. In fact, ozone levels are reduced in rooms where Blueair purifiers are operating.
These units are so easy to operate, too. There are three filters in each unit which can be changed in seconds. No disassembly or tools required. Simply open the unit, slide the soiled filters out and replace them. The filters need to be changed every six months. One allergy club tested different units and found that BLUEAIR is the easiest air cleaner on the market to change filters on.
The unit operates at different speeds. We recommend setting the unit on the higher speed settings for an hour when you first turn it on, to accelerate air exchange and quickly reduce indoor pollutants. After an hour, set the unit to one of the lower settings to provide continuous, practically silent filtration of the room air.
Of course, having the highest quality performing air purifier means little without a good warranty to back it up, and Blueair boasts the most comprehensive one in the industry. The 601 models each come with a ten-year limited liability warranty on all components except filters. Ten years - that's double the length of the next highest warranty in the industry. Blueair are confident about this offer this as the units are made with the best components available.
Designed and manufactured in Sweden, Blueair air purifiers reduce common household and office odors and clean indoor air of 99.97% of airborne allergens and lung damaging pollutants at 0.1 micron. Pollutants include house and textile dust, pollen, smoke, cat and dog dander, dust mites, automobile exhaust, soot, particles from laser printers and copiers, bacteria, fungi and mold spores.
Use of air purifiers not only makes air clean and pure but enhances energy, alertness, comfort and helps alleviate the discomfort of allergy and asthma symptoms
Blueair air purifiers have unique features that set them apart in the industry. For example, all units are made of high quality Swedish steel versus traditional plastic for durability and less sound resonance, use a specially designed German-made motor with sound insulating mounts for silent operation and years of trouble free service and are extremely energy efficient for cost-effective operation. The unit's exclusive HEPASilent™ technology combines the best of HEPA and precipitator technologies and provides a high level of filtration at low pressure for extra air purification capacity and less noise. Energy efficiency is from 20 to 80 watts, no more than a common light bulb.
The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) also exceeds most other air purifiers. The Blueair Model 501 air purifier, for example, has achieved the highest CADR rating for the second consecutive year according to the August, 2001 AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) Room Air Cleaner Directory. The CADR rating given to the Blueair Model 501 by AHAM is 380 cubic feet per minute for smoke and 390 cubic feet per minute for dust and pollen. This compares to an industry average of 155 cubic feet per minute. The way air enters into the units and how allergens and pollutants are captured is also different.
With the Blueair units, particles are constantly charged in the ionization chamber and attracted to the filters similar to a magnet without emitting harmful ozone, an irritant to lung and sinus tissue. 99.97% of all airborne allergens and lung damaging pollutants are trapped at 0.1 micron.
The filters are made of non-toxic, hydrophobic polypropylene and are 100 percent free of harmful triclosan, glass and paper fibers and other chemical additives. Common pollutants trapped by Blueair units include house and textile dust, pollen, smoke, cat and dog dander, automotive exhaust, soot, particles from laser printers and copiers, fungi and mold spores.
Air for the smaller capacity units enters the ionization chamber on the right and is dispersed from the left.
