 Seatone contains the pure extract of an edible green lipped mussel, Perna canalicus, found only in the clear unpolluted water surrounding New Zealand. Much research has been conducted internationally to test the efficacy of Seatone green lipped mussel extract (GLME) food supplement. The most important early study was conducted in Glasgow under the supervision of Dr Robin Gibson: and the positive results were published. Subsequently, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study that lasted six months was carried out in France involving more than 200 respondents. Daily intake during this study was 1,380mg of Seatone, and positive results were published by Dr Herni Billard. Concurrent studies have also been conducted in New Zealand to isolate and characterise the active principle in Seatone GLME. These suggest that the activity resides in a protein fraction and that its properties are unique and not demonstrated by other types of shellfish.
